Concept Description:

Levant, set like a gem within La Conchas’s reflecting pool, has breathtaking ocean views from every corner. For travelers seeking style and a unique dining experience, its prime location at La Concha Resort is a beacon of sophistication and comfort within the heart of San Juan’s coastal paradise. Chef Michael White, inspired by his travels across the Mediterranean takes the helm at Levant, bringing with him diverse and authentic flavors. White’s approach transcends traditional Italian fare, offering a unique menu infused with his signature style and a global palette, promising a culinary journey like no other.

Project Description:

Set in the iconic Perla building in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Levant takes design inspiration from the glamorous era when the restaurant was built, 1958 to be exact. Mid-century modern design, travel to the Mediterranean, the mix of sun and sea, craft and detail, and the exquisite pleasure of sharing food and drinks with friends and family in a beautiful place. Chef White’s travels, talent, and unique palette are celebrated in this space, and the design reflects and celebrates the Mediterranean, a glimmering destination for many to try his iconic and dynamic dishes with a Caribbean backdrop.

As you enter, a glowing display of wine and a bar that stands as a beacon over water-like tile take center stage as guests stand under the Puerto Rican sky. French gold brass sparkles throughout, bringing a warm glow to the space. Guests can drink at the glowing bar and enjoy the sunset over a reflecting pool. The main dining space design will have a relaxed sophistication brought forward with breezy materials, tailored yet comfortable, and cream colors with hints of aquamarine. Textures are reminiscent of the rough Mediterranean landscape set against polished pearl. Organically shaped soft seating showcases the clam shell’s architecture while guests are suspended over the reflecting pool looking out to the ocean. Tabletops clad in natural stone from the Mediterranean is the perfect backdrop for Chef White’s renewed and bold dishes that guests will enjoy. Murano glass lamps, original to the space will shine onto the iconic ceiling and glow like the sparkling water of this iconic view.

At the heart of Levant’s design is the dynamic upside-down clam shell dining room, a true hero of the space. Levant has a modern coastal design that seamlessly blends Mediterranean flavors with the local beauty of Puerto Rico and its coastline. This beloved and famous piece of architectural history, a national historic landmark, is set to reclaim its original glory as a must-visit destination in Puerto Rico, offering a unique dining experience that marries history and innovation.
