Concept Description:

Celano Design Studio Co. has teamed up again with Hotel Developer 3H Group on a newly opened 88-room boutique hotel along the beach walk at Clearwater Beach, Florida. The Hiatus features both Oceanside and Bay side water views from guestrooms and the Level 7 public areas that include a lobby bar & lounge, 3-meal restaurant and rooftop pool bar.

Project Description:

Whether traveling by car or taking a walk along the Clearwater beach, The Hiatus building is adorned with a large hand-painted mural, depicting a woman and floral motif, creating an iconic beacon that you have arrived at the hotel. Celano Design Studio Co. collaborated with local muralist Derek Donnelly to create a personality that now stands out as one of the landmarks to Clearwater.

Guests are greeted at valet with teak wood planking & warm clay-colored wallcovering on the way to the Level 7 public areas. Immediately off of the elevators guests are greeted by the jewel box-like sculptural white washed wood reception desks with curved round brass metal accents. A large layered textured glass chandelier – inspired by the shells along the beach – hangs overhead. Half arched shaped, warm coral colored gradient glass screens stand as a backdrop to the check-in space, referencing the colors of the sunset views.

Adjacent to the reception is the lobby’s Sunset Bar that opens up to a terrace with breathtaking, unobstructed views of the beach and with the best sunset views in town. Bronze metal and glass shelving hover over the stone bar top and brass metal bar front while maintaining the window view of the beach. This picturesque view is framed by the large white washed wood arch at the back bar. Taking inspiration from the Clearwater beach and its sunsets, the overall color palette of the public space consists of sunbaked, deep orange-red, warm coral tones of the sunset and the sandy white tones from the endless beaches.

Unique to this hotel public space is the Ocean Seven restaurant dining that is open to the lobby, creating panoramic-like views out to the ocean in any direction. A sun baked orange pattern cement tile floor creates a rug-like feel that defines the space with the sculptural wood dining tables and crystal blue upholstered sofa banquettes. Curved banquettes with high backs give privacy to guests and are canopied with white linen shades and large brass arched floor lamps, anchoring the corners of the restaurant. The seating transitions easily from breakfast, lunch, dinner or late night cocktails with clay colored banquettes and tailored upholstered armchairs that guests can settle into. White oak wood planks inset curved recessed coves create halos of warm lighting in the ceiling above to help define the spaces below through the lobby.

Looking for a hidden gem? Inquire with The Hiatus reception to gain key access to Suite 7, a tucked-away lounge with a pearlescent oasis mural that wraps around the space and plush, jewel toned velvet upholstery to sit and enjoy a cocktail. A mosaic floor pattern energizes the floor with bold pattern and is balanced by the gold leaf recessed ceiling and glass globe chandeliers. Cool off from the Florida sun at this distinctive getaway overlooking Clearwater Bay.

The Sielo pool bar cannot be missed from the beach walk. During the day black & white striped umbrellas with fringe line the rooftop and the glow of the basket weave pool bar pendant lights line the night sky with amber light. Take a break from the crowded beach and step onto the herringbone pattern teak flooring to lounge by the pool at one of the sun beds, in-pool loungers or comfy chaise sofas. Grab lunch at the covered lounge seating or come by after hours for cocktails by the pool bar that is accented with a black & white pattern wall tile and a pop of teal blue.

At the guestroom levels, you arrive at a quiet oasis. You are welcomed by a palm leaf inspired carpet pattern in cool blue tones in contrast with cream colored walls and frosted pearl like wall sconces that line the guest corridors. Guests step onto plank flooring and are greeted by linear gradient wallcovering in shades of teal blues. The material palette is neutral, a mix of teak colored and warm oak wood and accented with blues for a Modern Beach Bungalow experience. The area rug is a mix of rich blues representing the movement of water. The headboard is a white oak wood arch frame with a peek-a-boo of the teal blue gradient wallcovering. Use this headboard as a nightlight with the accent lighting that spreads a warm glow over the wallcovering like the sun rise over water.

Come stay the Hiatus, an unparalleled break from the routine.
