Urban Food District at Crown Perth
Concept Description:
Located within Crown Resorts Perth, the Urban Food District will serve as the premier ‘fast casual’ dining destination offering quality eats at accessible prices.
Designed to cater to guests seeking a quick bite before a Crown Theater show or Optus Stadium event, as well as those looking to enjoy a beer and watch a game with friends, the space is social, urban and fun.
Project Description:
The design concept for the Urban Food District is rooted in industrial authenticity and creative expression, reflecting the gritty charm and cultural vibrancy of the surrounding cityscape in Perth, Australia. The space merges raw materials, bold color accents, and bold murals to create a dynamic environment where food, community, and design converge.
This 24,000 square foot space features 9 distinct food concepts, a feature bar, outdoor Beer Garden and a Hip Hop-inspired speakeasy.
The food concepts include a mix of flavors from around the globe including Tekka Bar, a handroll and sake concept, Side Piece Pizza a traditional hand-tossed New York style pizza joint and Eggslut to name a few. The personality of each brand comes forward at each stall to create an eclectic and fun space for guests to meander and explore. A mix of decorative tile, black steel accents, wood planking and concrete are used throughout the food hall as the backdrop to the overall space creating a cohesive environment for each of the stalls to live in and stand out from.
A curated mix of metal furniture populates the hall, adding texture and color through a deliberate combination of black, green, bright blue and orange powder-coated frames. The varying hues create an energetic rhythm across the space, inviting guests to explore and gather in a casual, eclectic atmosphere. Tables and seating are modular, allowing for easy reconfiguration to support anything from solo lunches to lively communal gatherings.
The outdoor beer garden is a lively extension of the food hall outdoors. Communal seating areas, a feature mural from a local Perth artist and a walk-up window to the shipping container bar also accessed from inside the food hall is the perfect spot for guests to grab a beer, hang with friends and watch a rugby match. Lush planting, festoon lighting and a pink neon sign make this space approachable and fun.
1520, the Hip Hop-inspired speakeasy takes its influence from the Bronx in New York, the birthplace of hip hop. As the story goes, on August 11th DJ Kool Herc hosted a groundbreaking party at 1520 Sedgwick Ave. in the West Bronx, New York and is now considered the ‘birthplace of Hip-Hop.’ This influential urban and artistic movement is celebrated for its DJing, emceeing, graffiti art, and break dancing.
Our design endeavors to honor the essence of old-school Hip Hop culture through timeless materials, nostalgic artwork showcasing memorabilia, a collective mix of furniture, fun light fixtures, graffiti artwork, and an inviting vintage-inspired bar design capturing the authentic nostalgia that epitomizes New York Hip Hop.
